This blog post is about the true story of Lakshmi who was born into a sad life that did not come without hardships and cruelty from others. When her father left for America, she still does not know where he is or if he ever left. Though this makes her very sad, she manages to live through it all until one day when she has enough and runs away to find him herself. In doing so, she realises that her father had not been able to leave because his employer held his passport while they were apart and were going to use it as ransom money for the rest of his life. She then meets Mr. Bhatnagar who is an old man and a helpful man in the village. He helps her with food and starts to tell her about his own mother, who was beautiful and used to tend to his father when they visited the village. This makes Lakshmi feel even more curious and wants to know more about this in depth. However, she later finds out that he himself was the same employer and had been keeping her father in debt so that he would not leave, even though all his family were dead. Because of this, Mr. Bhatnagar forced Mr. Bhatnagar to let Lakshmi know about this information so that she would not tell anyone else. She tries to run away all the way, but she is caught by Mr. Bhatnagar's son who beats her badly and demands money from her. The rest of the story follows her recovery, where she learns about Mr. Bhatnagar's wife who was very kind to her. This makes her realise that she should forgive him for what he has done because all he wants now is to be able to see his family again before he dies. This story ends with her returning to America where she gets taken in by her father's old employer, but is able to live a happy life. Lakshmi was born into a very poor family in Kolkata, India. Her dad was also very poor and had difficulties getting any work. When he left for America, Lakshmi's mom had to take care of the whole house and everything on their own. However, the stress of this situation led them to having disagreements on what they should do next. This made Lakshmi grow up alone since she was only eleven years old when her dad left for America. She grew up with her mom overwhelming her with chores and acting like she did not exist. Her mother did not want to do anything for her husband because she was very upset. Lakshmi tried to call her dad many times, but his boss never let him talk to anyone. When Lakshmi got a bit older, she started going out in the city with a friend of hers who was a bit older than her and would show her off in front of men in the city.
